This season has always been hard for me. Much of my trauma happened primarily in the winter, I seem to struggle with seasonal affective disorder, and I lost both of my parents in or near wintertime.
I have noticed that I have found certain things that seem to help more than others and I wanted to share.
I make plans to do things I enjoy. Whether it is a day trip or making cookies with a loved one, it gives me something to look forward to.
Remember to use all of those self-care techniques. Taking care of yourself is so important for your own wellbeing but it also helps us to be more present for others.
Many times, when I am struggling, I will reward myself with something for doing the things I struggle to do. If I have to go to the store, I may buy myself something nice. If I am having a hard time even getting out of bed, I may reward myself with coffee. If I don't want to shower, I will reward myself by using a favorite shower gel and so on.
The important thing is I am getting the things done that I need to, and I know how hard that is to do at times.
I encourage you to make a list of things to do and places to go that would make you happy. That way it is ready when you are struggling.
